Atletico Madrid to Make Double Swoop on Benfica

Spanish La Liga winners Atletico Madrid could be set to make a double swoop on Portuguese side Benfica with the club wanting to sign Nico Gaitan and Jan Oblak.

Spanish media presence Mundo Deportivo reports that the pair could arrive in time to join in with the early days of pre-season training at Atletico with Simeone's men scheduled to return to practice today.

With the losses of Diego Costa and David Villa plus Belgian keeper Thibaut Courtois heading back to Chelsea after three seasons worth of loans, Atletico now find themselves with a big hole in their starting formation.

But to remain competitive with Europe's best, they have targeted Benfica keeper Jan Oblak to replace Courtois and also Nico Gaitan who would reinforce the wider midfield roles.

Oblak is considered to be one of the best young keepers in Europe and to tempt Benfica into a sale, former Saint Etienne midfielder Joshua Guilavogui could be used in a swap deal.

Oblak does however have a 20 million euro release clause and the signing would most likely be made through financial investment funding as the club want to preserve their transfer kitty to sign a striker, most likely one of Mario Mandzukic or Alvaro Negredo.

Meanwhile Nico Gaitan would probably join the club in a similar fashion through the use of an investment fund with a fee of around 25-30 million euros being touted for the Argentinian international.
