The 26 year-old has had a lot of rumoured suitors to take the player at the end of the season with the likes of AC Milan, Napoli and Inter Milan all interested in the player during the time when his contract was to run out at the end of the season.
But as the 26 year-old penned to a new deal which now runs out in 2017, Manchester City now seem like the only side left in the running to sign the midfielder and for an estimated figure of 12.5 million pounds.
The deal looks set to be closed in due course too, with the player Manchester bound to help bolster the defensive midfielder role which Fernandinho and Yaya Toure have occupied with much success.
Fernando made 45 appearances in all of Porto's competitions this season with 25 appearances made in the league.
