Roma Close on Mainz Forward Choupo-Moting

Italian Serie A side AS Roma are believed to be closing in on the signing of Mainz forward Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting with the player set to leave on a free transfer come the end of the season.

The 25 year-old has been in great form this season in the Bundesliga with 10 goals and 3 assists in 19 starts this term, helping his side to a comfortable 7th on the table.

The Corriere Dello Sport is reporting that the Camaroonian international also equipped with a second German passport, looks set to move to Roma on a free transfer come the end of this season.

Choupo-Moting could be set to be used as a back-up for Mattia Destro next season who has really come into his own since returning from injury with 13 goals in 12 starts.

The Corriere Dello Sport is also thinking that Choupo-Moting could be used as a bargaining chip to lure someone else to the Olimpico with Hellas Verona star Juan Iturbe a possible arrival in the Summer.

The German youth international changed his alliance to Cameroon and has since scored 9 goals in 23 appearances for the Senior side.
