The 25 year-old will join the club for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be in the region of 4-5 million euros
Matavz began the season fairly strongly with the striker being the first choice forward ahead of Jurgen Locadia with Matavz scoring twice in four matches in the Champions League qualification stages where they narrowly lost out to Milan at the final hurdle before he was used sparingly for most of the remaining season.
And now since making the move to Germany, Matavz cannot wait to get going. "I look forward to the new challenge in the Germany Bundesliga," Matavz told Augsburg's official website.
"It's nice that I've only missed the first few days of preparation.
"Now I will get to know my colleagues and the environment at FCA in the next few weeks and integrate myself into the team, so that we can successfully start the season."
The former Groningen forward made 15 appearances in the league last season and will hope to at least eclipse this at his new side.
